Bradley had his first solid food 10 days before he was 6 months old. He was a little skeptical at first, chocking down a few bites, but then he got the hang of it.
Our pediatrician told me to start Jamison on solids when she started to show an "interest." I thought, "Sure, how do babies show an interest in food?" Then, I saw it. This little girl would lean toward my food all the time, follow my spoon with her eyes and her whole head with every bite I took and kick her chunky little legs like crazy when Bradley, Anthony and I were at the dinner table. So, at 5 months old, she started on solids. She couldn't have been happier!
Then, there's cute little Conley. At his four month check-up he was "underweight" and the doctor told me to start him on solid foods. I thought that it was too early. So, I supplemented with formula to bulk him up a bit (he gained 2 pounds in a month) and waited on the solids. Now, at 5 1/2 months, Conley is ready to go. He has shown that same genuine interest in food that little Jamison did. Here's Conley three days ago with his first bite of solid food.
When Bradley and Jamison were little I made all their baby food. I made potatoes, parsnips, carrots, and peas.
I plan to start making Conley's food this weekend. In addition to the veggies, I have also been reading up on how to make your own rice and/or oatmeal cereal. I'm pretty excited to give it a try.

Now, all this being said, I find it particularly interesting that when Tad fed Bradley watermelon at such an early age, I didn't bat an eye.
I would jump over a couch like a linebacker if someone else was trying to feeding my baby. But, for some reason with Tad I pull out the camera, shrug my shoulders and say, "it's all good."

I love when they get to that stage. I also make their baby food-let me know how the oatmeal goes I would love to make that too. Also, how did you do parsnips and peas? Thanks Sarah
Just boil 'em and mash 'em. Well, puree them. The parsnip I used with the potato to make it a little sweeter. I'd do like 3 ice cubes of potatoes and 1 parsnip. The peas were easy too . . . just boil and puree. i'll let you know how the oatmeal goes. I hope to do it tomorrow. :)
