Palm Sunday

Sometime in the next few days I plan to record my thoughts about General Conference. I plan to share what I have learned. But, for now, enjoy a painting depicting Palm Sunday.

Eight days before Christ broke the bonds of death, He and his disciples were traveling to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. Jesus sent two disciples ahead to bring back a donkey with the message, "The Lord hath need of it." When Jesus entered Jerusalem large crowds of people gathered to honor Jesus. They waved palm branches in His path. They rejoiced and shouted, "Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord."

After Jesus entered Jerusalem, many of the people asked, "Who is this?" The multitude replied, "This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee."

In the simplest of terms, Palm Sunday is an occasion for reflecting on the final week of Jesus' life. It is a time for Christians to prepare their hearts for the agony of His Atonement and the joy of His Resurrection.

The triumphal entry, remembered today on Palm Sunday, provides a joyful prelude to many sad events that would intervene between this point and the miracle of the empty tomb. It represents one of the few times during His mortal ministry when Jesus was recognized as the king He is. However, the triumphal entry also serves as a symbol of Jesus's Second Coming, allowing us to look forward to the day when He will return in glory and all will accept Him as king.

Today is eight days before Easter Sunday. Today we celebrate this event.
